Details
Whole house renovation series – episode one. Hi, I am a millennial who bought a house, and instead of taking the character OUT of the home, I am working to put character INTO it! Also, the house was given more than a few unfortunate “millennial gray” updates over the decades by previous owners, which covered up the home’s original charm.
So it’s going to be a big undertaking to complete this home makeover. Join me and my builder husband Nick as we peel away the layers of bad millennial gray, to restore a house with character, one room at a time. This home improvement series documents my whole home renovation process at every step as we transform a family home.
Oh, but there are a few challenges…
- 1. I’m funding this project completely from the money I can make in the creator economy…as we go!
- 2. We are DIYing the whole renovation, just the two of us!
- 3. We are living in the house while renovating it! In this episode, we are starting the renovations in the dining room, where we have to make a decision about the floors.
Trouble arises when our flooring supplier goes out of business in the middle of the project – leaving us with not enough materials to finish the job, and a dilemma to try to find the same kind of flooring elsewhere…with limited options. Is it pronounced “foyer” or “foyay?” Who knows! But it’s time to give this foyer a makeover! Whole house renovation series – episode two. A millennial couple putting the character INTO their home rather than taking it away. In this episode, Chelsea comes up with a bold plan to transform the bland front entry foyer with harlequin marble tiles. The only problem is, that there seems to be a lack of marble options in Canada that can accommodate this pattern. Come along for the journey as this foyer makeover progresses.
Episode Three
Details
It’s time to tackle the staircase in our foyer makeover. Starting with removing the old, musty, germy carpet! We also need to remove the old, unsafe stair railing/balusters which were not to code (don’t worry, the old railings are not antique, they are builder-grade from 1995). In this episode, we have to make some decisions about the next steps and wrap our heads around what the heck we got ourselves into with this renovation. Then, we will take a tour of the home in its mid-renovation state, and go on a field trip to look at slabs for the kitchen. Come along for the fun!
