2 Nights at the Oswego Hotel, Victoria BC
I packed our bags, grabbed my very spoiled (and very deserving) dog, Lucky, and headed to The Oswego Hotel in Victoria for a little weekend escape. I’d heard this boutique hotel was next-level pet-friendly, but let me tell you, this place doesn’t just allow dogs. They celebrate them. If my dog had thumbs, she’d be leaving them a 5-star Yelp review.
First Impressions of the Oswego Hotel
Rolling up to the hotel, I immediately noticed the vibe, modern, cozy, and just the right amount of upscale without feeling stuffy.
One bedroom Pet-Friendly Suite at Oswego Hotel
I booked a one-bedroom suite, which is lovely because the bedroom is separate from the living room and kitchen (yes, there’s a kitchen!)
The one-bedroom suite is massive compared to the usual shoebox-sized hotel rooms. A full kitchen, a separate bedroom, and a cozy living area meant we weren’t tripping over each other all weekend.
Plus, it was a corner unit, so we enjoyed the wrap-around views from the floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedroom and the private balcony from the living room. Yes, you get a private balcony!
But my favorite part of our room has to be the full-sized ensuite kitchen with full-sized appliances. Overall, it felt like we were staying in a condo, not a hotel.
Lucky loved listening to music on the ensuite sound system.
A Tail-Wagging Welcome
But let’s talk about the pet perks, because this is where The Oswego really won me over. Upon arrival, my dog was greeted with her own little welcome package: a plush dog bed, food and water bowls, some gourmet locally-made treats, a handy poop bags. For dogs, this is the hotel version of checking in and immediately being handed a glass of champagne.
How cute is the little note with your dog’s name, when you arrive in your room?
Does Oswego Hotel Charge a Fee for Pets?
Yes, there is a one-time pet fee not only ensures your pet’s comfort but also supports the Victoria Humane Society!
So basically, your dog and you will have a luxe stay and contribute to a good cause. 10/10, no notes.
Oswego Hotel Location
Situated on a tranquil street, The Oswego is a mere four-minute walk from Victoria’s historic harbor and the majestic parliament buildings. This prime location means you’re close to the city’s vibrant attractions, yet far enough to enjoy peaceful strolls with your pet. The nearby waterfront and parks offer ample opportunities for walks, play, and exploration.
Dining and More
While your pup relaxes after a day of adventure, treat yourself to a delightful meal at the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Aegir. Serving local fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it’s the perfect spot to unwind. Although there weren’t a ton of vegetarian menu options on the dinner menu when I was there, I did manage to find a few meat-free appies which were pretty good.
The breakfast menu had more options for vegetarians, thankfully. I mean, look at the size of that waffle! Delicious!

So many guests have pets, and the hotel provides pet beds and food bowls.” Another shared, “The staff are very friendly and helpful. Exploring the Neighborhood: Dog-Friendly Heaven
The Oswego is perfectly located in James Bay, just a four-minute walk to the Inner Harbour. That means we had tons of scenic walking routes, which, let’s be real, was more for my dog’s aesthetic Instagram shots than for actual exercise. We strolled past the parliament buildings, wandered down to the waterfront, and checked out Beacon Hill Park, where my dog lived her best off-leash life while I admired the peacocks.
